This is a Handwoven Antique Persian Sarouk, circa 1910. Most Sarouk rugs were produced in the 1920s and 1930s. The earlier pieces were made in village homes by highly specialized and longtime weavers who took pride in their work, starting from shearing the wool and dyeing it with vegetable dyes, finally weaving fine knots. When you look closely at this piece, you can see that the weaver had a command of design layout and space, as it is extremely well-balanced with great attention to detail. The medallion is unusual and seldom found in the Sarouk rugs. Its cascading vines are also an indication of early 20th-century work, as is the coral red background when compared to the Sarouks made a decade or two later. The Later Sarouks usually have a garish dark red background, of which you will see many older pieces. The condition is great with sides and ends intact, which helps keep it from fraying. There are no odors or stains, and it is clean and ready for use. Please feel free to paste "2 x 4 Antique Sarouk" in both the search engine of both eBay and 1st Dibs, and compare this one to others that are for sale. As you can see in the additional settings I found for this carpet, it complements both antique and traditional decor, as well as modern settings.
